Maja Lamovšek: ON-OFF, Urban Gallery
I am interested in the instinctual, in the so called id. Freud called man's primary instincts ID (biological: food, water, avoidance of pain, sexuality, also aggression – struggle for survival). It does not know or question what is right and what wrong – it is based on the pleasure principle. In our daily life, we question too much, thinking and mulling over things. Id is an unconscious process. My movement research will focus on what can be controlled in the body and, when not controlling, where does it lead me. When the thought process is again “turned on”, the world of the instinctual collapses, while it is the instinctual which brings pleasure. I will focus on pleasure, how much of it can we handle and how much of it do we actually have. The moving body will only be the subject of exploration.
All these thought obstacles… Will Id overcome them or will it allow that they ruin man’s pleasure?
Maja Lamovšek dances for already 16 years. Her training includes different dance techniques, such as Modern jazz, Show jazz, Latino jazz, Fusion, Hip hop, contemporary dance technique, Flying low, Passing through, Ballet, Horton, Gaga dance technique, Modern, African dances, Forsyth's improvisations, Laban. As a dancer, she worked with the Gnosis Theatre, with choreographers Tina Valentan, Gregor Luštek, Marko Urbanek, and the dramaturge Aleksandra Blagojevič. Her own work includes short choreographies and the performance Found (with Maja Šnuderl). In 2011 she was artist in residence at NagiB Festival.
